NQR Mine Detector Scanning Area

An area of 60" by 24" is the maximum area
accessible from the user's standing position
to the center of the head of the detector.

This area is set off center from the user's
standing point because the detector can
be mounted to either side of the hip. In this
case, the detector would be mounted to the
user's right hip.

Shaded area represents reach of mine detector

In order to assure scanning with 100% coverage
area, a repeating pattern with overlap is
required. The red circles illustrate coverage
of scans from the user's fixed position.

Subsequent scans cannot be performed
within adjacent areas due to resonance
remaining after completion of scan.

This repeating pattern can be executed
in the following order to prevent detection
of resonance.

In this 10-point pattern, the user can
complete 10 scans before having to
advance 1 step. (Note: 1 step must
equal 12 inches)

The red circles indicate scans completed
from the first standing point. The blue
circles show scans completed after
taking one step forward.

Repeating this pattern allows a 60" wide
path to be completely scanned without
missing any spots.
